Topic: Avent Isis Duo

I know I have read of a few people here who have used/are using the Avent Isis Duo electric breastpump.... can you all please let me know it's pors and cons?  I love the Isis manual, but as Ivy gets older its taking more time to pump, and I have less time to do it in.  I rented the medela symphony and now am looking into if it is worth it for me to buy my own electric double, since I plan on breastfeeding Ivy till 2 if she'll go that long (or longer) and will be pumping for another family for at least another 5 months (I told them I would try to keep them in mommas milk till lil guy is 1)... I just don want to spend money on something that doesn't work, like the other 3 pumps I have wasted money on!

Re: Avent Isis Duo

After I stopped BF Bronx, I felt so guilty. Then it was too late because my milk was gone. I bought a used Medela instyle double electric breast pump for $100 to use with baby #2. I didn't want any excuses next time for not BF. Anyway, a friend was having latching issues with her baby girl who was jaundice. I let her borrow the pump since I wasn't using it and she LOVES it. She said it has been wonderful. It retails for $275, so I got an awesome deal. Maybe look into Ebay or Amazon or local consignment stores.

Re: Avent Isis Duo

I was using the Medela PIS when I got home from the hospital, and it just wasn't really working for me.  I just bought the Avent Double Electric pump, and I love it!  I have the Avent hand pump as well, and even it worked better than the Medela.

The Avent is quite a bit less expensive than the Medela double electric pumps.  I got mine from Walmart.com for $184, and it came with a black carrying case, cold pack case, 2 soothie pacifiers, and a few packs of breast pads.  I think it also had a couple 4 oz bottles, as well as sealing discs for storage.  I like that I can set and change my own speed and suction without having to let go of the flange and turn a dial on the main unit (like the Medela).

What I don't really like about the Avent is that the cords are a little difficult to work with.  They are kind of stiff and inflexible.  I find myself having to turn my body or change my position in order to get good flange position.  Maybe it's just because it's new, and they will relax after a while.

Overall, I'm really glad I bought it.  I was nervous because Medela is supposed to be top-of-the-line, and I thought there was no way I would get better quality than that.  I was afraid it would end up being a waste of money for something that wouldn't work any better than what I already had.  But, I really, really like it and I'm getting much more milk than when I was using the Medela.

Re: Avent Isis Duo

Goobie, we need to sell our Medela PIS if you are interested. We bought it brand new and used it for a mere 3 months. We have TONS of accessories too, including new tubing.

I don't know if the PIS were something you already tried that didn't work for you, but let me know!

I have not tried the PIS, really wish I knew someone locally who had one I could try before committing to it, since the Medela Harmony and the Swing did not work for me at all sad

beyondobsessed - thank you... I did not realize you could het the Avent in WalMart (you can't here) but I will have to look next time I am across the line.

The bonus (trying to be positive) is I have all the "bits" for both medela and avent pumps... extra flanges, bottles, tubling, membranes etc already!
