Topic: To find out or not?

I am very "wait til delivery" when it comes to finding out what parts my baby has.  But this one is DIFFERENT!  I'm on the fence, should we find out at the next ultrasound or not?  May 17th is my last ultrasound at 20 weeks unless there is something wrong.  Elective later is not plausible, closest place to do electives is 4 hours away.

Re: To find out or not?

Have you ever known ahead of time? It might be fun to do something different this time around.
Although once you know you can't un-know...
It's a tough call!

Re: To find out or not?

To me, not finding out was never an option.  It drove me crazy from day one not knowing.  I wanted to know who this person inside of me was - or as much information as possible anyway.  And the way I see it, finding out on an ultrasound rather than at delivery doesn't take away the surprise.  You will get that moment of "it's a..." only you get it 4 or 5 months earlier. :-) I just love knowing its my son growing in there.  I love calling him by his name, buying him things just for him...,I even had a custom crib quilt made for him, which I couldn't have done if I didn't know.

That being said, I would say that once you get to your u/s if you are still having conflicting feelings, bring a paper and envelope for the tech to write the answer in and seal it up.  That way you don't lose your opportunity to find out if you decide you really want to know but you also aren't rushed into the decision.

Re: To find out or not?

We found out with both of our children. We're determined that if/when we have a third we won't find out. Since you already have boys and girls I think it is more exciting not to find out unless you HAVE to buy "gender" specific things.

Re: To find out or not?

I love knowing ahead of time, I enjoyed being able to call him by name once we knew. But I can also see the merit in waiting. Of course because I'm just as curious to know if you have a boy or a girl I say find out! LOL.. but seriously, if you aren't sure, I like the pp's idea of having them write it down so you don't have to decide right then. Though, is that a possibility now? I remember with Tiny you weren't able to because of the law there right?

Re: To find out or not?

We waited & wanted to be surprised, it was the best! It just gave us lots to do & wonder about for several months. it also made planning for new baby exciting! Goob, I'd say if you can wait, do it!
Oh, also made our baby shower super fun & kept family & friends anticipating along with us!

Re: To find out or not?

It's really up to you. If you've always waited then perhaps you should find out to have that experience as well. As for me I'm barely pregnant with my first and can hardly stand the wait, mainly because it is very hard to prepare for the baby. I can't imagine having everything in gender neutral green and yellow or shopping after the baby arrives like some people do, especially in the case of having a csection.

I say find out!!!

Re: To find out or not?

DO IT!!!!  i don't see how people can stand the wait!  that's just me, though.

Re: To find out or not?

OSS, they changed the laws last June, and now we are able to find out... but you're right, with Tiny we could only find out if we paid for elective.

I didn't find out with Boog.  I did with Moose.  We didn't with Tiny... and now this one I sort of want to know.  And Tim wants to know.  I just don't know!  I know I can bond with babe no matter what, I and with this being #6, we don't need to buy anything (except maybe a few more diapers if Tiny doesn't train by October, which I will buy second hand off friends and could care less about pattern or colour).

Tim has already asked that he be allowed to find out.  Then he won't tell me if I don't want to know.  Which is carp, because the man keeps secrets about as well as my dog holds his farts in.  So either we both find out, or no one...

Leaning towards finding out this time, for my own curiosity and to be able to say "baby brother" or "baby sister" to Tiny, who doesn't quite grasp the concept of a baby in there at all!

Re: To find out or not?

I am placing bets that:
A) you will find out....and
B) that it's a boy

Re: To find out or not?

I think since you have both girls and boys to be suprised. That would be fun.  smile

This is my prediction too!  Either way, we'll have 4 girls and 2 boys, or 3 and 3 (that are part of our daily lives, tim has a daughter that was put up for adoption we hope to connect with someday as well).  So I'm happy either way )

Re: To find out or not?

Find out!!!!!! smile

I can't imagine not finding out! I know it adds to the excitement/suspense for some and I totally get its different for everyone. I just loved envisioning my baby boy in there, connecting with HIM as a HIM wink while he was chillin' out in there, and of course being able to buy boy stuff if I wanted to!!

You still get that "it's a _____!" moment and its just as amazing!! And I'm gonna guess BOY! Lol

After 9 yrs & 1 devastating loss, we got our BFP at 9DPO ~ and welcomed our beautiful son on Halloween! Best treat ever!!

Re: To find out or not?

If you feel different about wanting to know this time around, then go for it.
I couldn't bear the suspense and just had to find out around 17 weeks at an elective place!
Let us know what you decide!  smile  smile  smile

Re: To find out or not?

I was so glad I found out! I'm all for buying the girly pink stuff, so when I saw girly outfits or room decor on sale I had the opportunity to pick it up right away!! I guess it depends on whether or not you're someone who buys gender neutral or gender specific. I like gender specific!! I say go for it! I really enjoyed knowing ahead of time! It was fun to share when people ask and it will be nice for your kids to know too!!

Re: To find out or not?

LOL we don't need to buy anything!  Between my daycare, and Tiny, we have duplicates, or more, of just about everything.  And I'm not a big gender specific buyer... but I still think I may need to know this time.

Ooooh, diapers.... I can always buy more cloth diapers!!

Re: To find out or not?

We are definitely leaning towards finding out this time.  Not for buying reasons.  Not for gender specific items.  Just for plain old curiosity smile
