Topic: Hit me with boys names!

So Tim and I have been tossing names around.  We have 4 months still to choose, but this is proving to be HARD!  Probably because we have so many "rules".

We will not name our child anything on any top 100 lists

Nothing we know anyone else with that name

It has to be phonetic, easily spelled and pronounced

It has to go with 2 last names

It has to go with Jordon for the middle name

No stupid nicknames (we do enough of that already!)

Nothing too close to our other kids names (so T's and R's will be in the bottom because we have 3 R's and 2 R's in the house already).

Nature based or Pagan inspired is a bonus

Meaning we love is a bonus too.

So names that are absolute No nos are:  Timothy, Arnold, Edward, Gordon, Shane, Brandon, Troy, Daniel, Ian, Darian, Randall, Michael, Robert, Nathan, Joshua, LeLand, Jason, Grant, Carter, Blaze, Joel, Patrick, Phillip... this is immediate family only!  Julian, Matthew, Jacob, Kian, Anton, Adrian, Dillon, Damion, Raidon, Ryker, Titus, Sebastian, Rylan, Kai, John, Cody.  I'm sure there's more.

*sigh* this is really hard this time!

My likes, Declan, Callum, Keiran, Lennan, Kaine.  Tim likes Anthony, Titus and Dante.  Anthony is our fall back if we can't find anything else we love more.

Re: Hit me with boys names!

FYI, on the ss website, Anthony is ranked high in the top 100 baby names for boy for the past 20 years. Just a few years ago it was in the top 10 for a few years.
Oh hey, Alva is ranked 268 in 1909! Julias is standing out to me, not sure of the popularity in more recent years. Freeman caught my eye.

Re: Hit me with boys names!

I adore Declan and Callum.  My partner has nixed both and we are getting pretty happy with our list, so it's ok.  Here are some other thoughts:

Oscar - means deer
Faolan - means wolf
Lowell - means wolf
Ulric - means wolf/power of the wolf
Corbin - means a steep hill
Crispin
Dermot - means without enemies

I noticed a bit of a Gaelic kick to some of your names, Goobie.  I really wanted to name one of the babies after a name for "fox," but I came up short in that department so I decided wolf was the next best thing! But, my partner has steered me away from names that are for animals.  So, I share!

If in addition to pronounceable/spellable, you have to have an iPhone recognize it, Crispin and Ulric are right out. wink

I know sad  But it is still Tims all time favorite name.

Not too worried about autocorrect, it doesn't recognize ANY of our kids names, Ivy is ok, as long as it is not capitalized, otherwise it changes all our kids names.  I have gotten used to things like "drain needs to come by and grab something from trucks room, him and cheese will be there soon"

Corbin is very popular here, but Crispin isn't... hmmm, wonder what Tim would think....

Re: Hit me with boys names!

I like Lennan actually, but it might turn into Lenny, which flashes me back to 9th grade English and "Of Mice and Men". I think it could grow on me though.

Glad to see you were able to get Tim to think about alternatives. It's nice to pick a name that doesn't already "belong" to someone you know that way you don't have any preconceived images in your head. This was the reason we strayed from naming after family, at least with first names.

Re: Hit me with boys names!

I know you're into nature and all that but if you could somehow contrive to birth baby boy on a Monday, that first name would be my favorite!

Zaniel (angel of Mondays)
Leif (beloved)
Aspen
Hunter
Maddox (benevolent, compassionate)
Aragorn (not pagan but I like it!)
Aiko (Japanese for love)
Linden (tree)

PS - I like Dante but I originally did not list this because I don't want to side with DH against you!

Re: Hit me with boys names!

We were going to name a boy either Adlai or Jonah smile We also considered Avery, but these days that's more popular as a girl's name.

1st daughter born 9/26/2013 (bfp 2nd attempt at home ICI)
2nd daughter born 3/8/2016 (bfp after 7 attempts at home ICI, 2 miscarriages, 1 D&C)
age 36 http://lb3m.lilypie.com/evtim8.png
age 39 http://lb1m.lilypie.com/K8qxm7.png

Re: Hit me with boys names!

Hollis and Ambrose just stood out to me. Lowell that was already listed is nice. I like the idea of an 'o' in the first name to match the middle name, but that's just me & my quirks! Best yet, an o to match Jordon and the other vowel match the last name. For example Ambrose Jordon Emerson.

Anthony is a fine name!

Re: Hit me with boys names!

OK, trying to remember all I want to answer, because the reply feature is not working for me right now...

I think Lennan has as much potential to become Lenny as Anthony does Tony.  I'm not sure if I love the name, or the fact that it means "lover" which is my nickname for Tim.  None of our other kids are named (first names) after anyone, so this one shouldn't be either, right?

Zen, I shall try for Monday... Boog was Saturday, Moose Friday, Tiny Tuesday, so I will aim for a Monday - is that the day before my due date, or may I try to go a week early?!

I agree Avery seems girly these days, not to mention super popular here sad

Funny someone mentioned Ambrose, it popped into my mind this morning.  I think Hollis might be too close to "Holly" and well... "the Holly and the Ivy..." now I am singing Yule carols!

Dolan is different... reminds me of pineapple, which is not a bad thing...

Last names... we have 2, very long (15 characters) very French, every vowel in the alphabet (except Y)  smile

Ugh, asked Tim if his dad had a middle name last night.  Just because I think this baby should have his own name, doesn't mean we couldn't play off someones name, and as the middle name will be Jordon after my brother who died of brain cancer, then maybe we could play on his first name for Tims dad who also died of brain cancer... Yeah, I have Alfred to work with there!

Is it really stupid to feel like NOTHING we have looked at, read, seen, heard etc. sounds like "his" name yet?  Its this weird feeling I keep getting like "that's a nice name, but not HIS name"... maybe he'll tell me what his name is?

Thank goodness is for some reason that was a really large clitoris we saw instead of a penis, we both love our back up girls name!

Re: Hit me with boys names!

Hahaha, I was not expecting that last sentence there.

I like Ambrose. It sounds very 19th-century, but that's probably because I'm associating it with a short story I know that's set in the 19th century - "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge". Maybe if you read it (with Ambrose as its author), you'll find a sign? I also go with gut feelings a lot and tend to look for signs in lots of places. Anyway, it's a very cool, surreal story with quite an ending.

My DP and I were just discussing names for our potential second child. The top 100 is also out for us, and the middle name will almost definitely reference my dad who passed away last year.

Keep us posted!

Re: Hit me with boys names!

Here's a suggestion that is certainly not on any top 100 list, probably not on ANY list, goes well with Jordon, and has Al in it for Tim's fathers middle name, Alfred.  Alaric, pronounced Ah-lar-ik.  I got it off of a t.v. show, but I love the sound of it.  The most famous Alaric was the king of the Visogoths who sacked Rome in 410.  I know its odd, but I like it and just thought I would suggest it.  Good luck with your choice!

I actually really like it... Aric is a derivative of Richard, which is my dads legal name (though he goes by Al!)

BUT - I think we have a name, we're going to sit on it a few days and see if it still holds the same appeal to both of us before disclosing.  It has been mentioned here, and it originally was not on my radar because its one of my cousins kids names, but we're not close.  I thought of a similar name, and Tim thought of this name (but we didn't tell the other till we'd both sat on it for a day or two) and then last night combined the two and though "this might be it!"  So... we'll see!

I'm not happy with this.  See, if you'd chosen Zaniel I'd feel like I got to name another baby!  Do you really want to take that joy from me?

Oh well, I'll forgive you if I like your choice!

Re: Hit me with boys names!

I'd love that!  But you'd mentioned the name under consideration was a cousin's kid's name and I never heard of it before so I thought that left me out.  Of course, that's kinda silly since I don't know any of your cousins!  But in case it is a consideration, you don't have to actually have the baby on a Monday if AI, ovulation, conception, or BFP dates fell on a Monday!

PS - while all of us here are pretty sure the p is not a c, what would the girl names have been?

http://lbyf.lilypie.com/TikiPic.php/AfUDuhU.jpghttp://lbyf.lilypie.com/AfUDm4.png

Re: Hit me with boys names!

Oops, AI was wed, O was thurs, BFP was sunday.  But it must have been Monday somewhere right?!  and you're right, it is a different name, but not because I dislike the name, because one of Boogs middle names is Daniel!

If the p was really a HUGE c, she will be Mavis.  Middle name either Anna-Lise or Annemarie after our sisters.

Re: Hit me with boys names!

Love the name Anna-Lise.  I won't say what I think of Mavis because one day someone may use that name and I don't want to cause offense.  Thank G-d (or G-ddess) that your baby is going to be a boy!

Re: Hit me with boys names!

LOL lots of people don't like Mavis... and that's OK, no one liked "Troy" before I named my first son it, and now everyone loves it, and we had lots of negative comments about Ivy as well.  Oh, and I was told calling a daughter Robyn would be cruel, as my ex husband is Robert.  To each their own!
