Topic: Medela Pump issues

So last night I tried to pump but my Medela pump wasn't working.  The suction was so light I could barely move it and it was just barely moving the nipple.  The machine sounds the same as it always does so I feel like it's an issue with the hose or cup.  This has happened twice before.  Once it just started working the next time and I never could figure it out and once when the hose was kinked.  But very thing looks fine to me.  Any ideas?  I think it's a Punp in Style....the one that looks like a black lunch box.

Re: Medela Pump issues

I think it is the flanges. Mine does this too and I'll change the flanges and get a much stronger suction.

Re: Medela Pump issues

Yes, those parts need to be changed out regularly.  If you still have issues they have really good customer service.

Re: Medela Pump issues

Mine lost suction because the face plate was loose. Try pressing on the face plate to see if it will snap into place

Re: Medela Pump issues

The face plate seems good.  By flanges do you mean the yellow valves?

Re: Medela Pump issues

Yes, and the little white peices that create suction

Re: Medela Pump issues

i had medela and evenflo electronic pumps, and neither of them worked even nearly as well as the medela manual pump.  i never had to change out any of the parts or anything.  i used the flexible "horns," rather than the hard plastic ones, and it gave me months of great pumping (like 5 ounces in 5 minutes) without any trouble.  the manual pump is $50 at babies r us.

Re: Medela Pump issues

Change the little white membranes on the yellow valve parts, they sometimes last forever, and sometimes need to be switched within a month or so.

Re: Medela Pump issues

So I'm really not sure what I did but after messing around with it for a while somehow it started working again.  So yay! I was getting really annoyed.  I don't need to have much milk on hand because he nurses exclusively  and I have no idea when I will be willing to leave him to go out, but I am becoming a bit of a milk hoarder and love having my stash.  I have about a week an a halls full supply right now and it just feels good knowing it's there, just in case.

Re: Medela Pump issues

Glad it's working! Totally agree its nice to have a stash.
