Topic: Tipping daycare providers

Remind me again, what's a good ballpark figure for tipping daycare providers?  J & J have five combined providers plus a director.  My weekly fee is $275.  What would you suggest for a Christmas gift, or what are you doing?

Re: Tipping daycare providers

My fee is much more because I employ a private nanny. However, I
We do a nice size cash bonus and days off.

Re: Tipping daycare providers

I am a preschool teacher & have loved all kinds of things - I received a nice box of note cards. last year - I loved using them! I have gotten a movie night basket - it had a package of microwave popcorn & a few boxes of candy - It was simple, but fun - a $10 gift card to target is always loved - I received a neat serving dish - I don't expect much - I don't think your providers should - i think it would be different if you were the only employer, like in the nanny situation above - I wouldn't think anything more than $10 ...

Re: Tipping daycare providers

I run a daycare from my home, and a small bonus, craft supplies, or a gift card for a coffee shop are always welcome!  I'd say with 5 providers, no more then $10-$20 a person.

Re: Tipping daycare providers

last year i had six total care providers i was buying gifts for, one of them being her main teacher.  i bought them all little dollar store mugs, bought a box of starbucks cocoa to divide up, some candy canes, some godiva chocolates and filled each mug with those things, and tied the handles with curly ribbon to look festive.  i bought the main teacher a $25 gift card to AMC theaters.

Re: Tipping daycare providers

five is a good number.  i have seen five-packs of $10 gift cards (so $50 total) for places like cold stone creamery and starbucks.  you could do those and then do something personalized, like let the kids make the gift card envelopes with stampers and glitter.  smile

Re: Tipping daycare providers

Have you considered going in with other parents?  A $50-100 gift card would be really nice for them and could potentially cost each parent less than if they did it individually.

The parents are trying to organize themselves.  We started a private FB group last night but only have six members so far.  I think there are about 30 of us.

Re: Tipping daycare providers

We had a group get together for gift cards at Christmas and end of the year for preschool last year.  For Christmas there were 4 of us i think.  We got a 40 or $50 gift card to dunkin donuts. At the end of the year almost the whole class of parents got together which i think was 11 students but 1 didn't participate,  got a $100 spa gift card.  The teacher was thrilled.
