Topic: Had to buy First Response but not for me....

My teen son and his fiancé came over and told me they thought I will be a grandma....oh man...after 6 long years of trying and the heartbreak of having to quit and give up forever I am so hoping for a big bfn for them...they have no idea what caring for a baby will be like. I sent them off with tests, a lecture about following directions exactly...I so wish they would have waited...

Oh boy. They didn't go to the store to even buy them?  hmm

Re: Had to buy First Response but not for me....

Nope...But we do live in a relatively small city and Emily doesn't graduate until May...her parents will go insane if she is PG. So far they haven't called so I will assume the first test was negative. I did tell them I bought them a three pack as I knew they couldn't wait but tomorrow am's urine would be the most accurate. It's not that I don't want them to have children...some day...when they have good jobs, insurance, maturity...

Re: Had to buy First Response but not for me....

That would explain the hesitancy. And she isn't out of HS yet? But they are engaged? That's so young. For her and you I hope she's not knocked up!

Being young does not equate being unable to raise a child.  Keep us updated.

Re: Had to buy First Response but not for me....

Well, if they did everything right she is NOT PG. But she is still 3 weeks late. She had been on and off the pill so I told them to still treat her as if she was PG...no drinking ect...and retest in a week...no period then I would take her into the dr. and pay to have a blood test run.

I agree Goobie when I was their age I would have been able to raise a baby...but my adopted son...has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and ADHD and his behaviors are outrageous and he has never been able to see or accept consequences of any kind. He has no job and she only works a few hrs. a week. I worked hard and got him on SSI and public assistance programs because as much as I love him he could not stay in our home with the rest of my kids with his bad temper. See why I am worried. When I spoke to my son about the outcome of the test he said they were both so disappointed...oh man I was right about them doing this on purpose...

I don't mean to put down any of you who are or were young when you became parents...just in this case....I am worried.

Re: Had to buy First Response but not for me....

I would be worried if I was you too! FAS and ADHD, as I'm sure you know, likely means diminished executive functioning and very limited ability to plan ahead and see the consequences of his actions, in addition to their young age which already makes this tough.  Yikes.
Can you talk to her about birth control and the value of waiting?  At least until graduation?  Hell, can you give them something to look forward to, like offering to send them on a weekend trip somewhere if they do not get pregnant by July?  (Right after you win the lottery and become extremely rich, of course.)  She might be more reasonable?
I'm so sorry, what a hard place for you to be!

It could be an ectopic. You can have lower to little or no pregnancy hormone. If they have insurance, they should get her checked out.
