Topic: 7 days since shipping...

It's been a week today since my dewar shipped and I still haven't gotten a positive OPK.  I think that last month's chemical has delayed ovulation.  I really don't want to miss out on the cycle.  I also don't want to risk waiting too long to return the dewar and have anything happen to the vials.  I know it's a long shot, but has anyone heard of NW agreeing to send another (empty) dewar that I could transfer the vials into?  (Obviously, that would charge for it which wouldn't be an issue.)  The only other thing that I think would work would be to order one more vial tomorrow and then transfer all the vials into the new dewar and return the old dewar.  I just have this feeling that as soon as I return everything, I'm going to ovulate.

Re: 7 days since shipping...

Sorry you are going through this. Same thing happened to me a few cycles back and I ended up keeping the dewar for 10 days. The sample was still completly frozen.

I'm not sure if NW would ship you an empty dewar but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Have you tried to see if you can get a refill on the liquid nitrogen? From what I understand, medical supply places may be able to refill your tank so the sample will stay frozen longer. Then you would only have to pay 20$/day for the tank rental.

Re: 7 days since shipping...

I remember when I had to return vials the first time they waited a couple weeks before putting them into storage. I freaked out because I thought they were just sitting out, but NW assured me the dewer was hooked up to an alert or something that went off when the liquid nitrogen went off. So the vials were in the dewer for about 3 weeks. I think it's $20/day for having the dewer longer than 7 days.

Alternatively, your idea of buying another vial and transferring everything to the new one isn't bad. I would only do it if you plan to use the extra vial this cycle though. Getting stuck with extra vials is not fun.

That's a good idea.  I'll try to find a medical supply place tomorrow.  Thanks! smile

I have two vials now, so I don't think I'll need another vial this cycle.  I would probably send one vial back. sad I'll call NW tomorrow and see if it's possible for me to check how much liquid nitrogen is left.  Thank you! smile

Re: 7 days since shipping...

I also wanted to add (Since you are considering paying shipping for an empty dewar), there was a post on this board a few months back from someone who was considering buying a dewar. Obviously, you would still need somewhere to fill it with liquid nitrogen but it may be worth considering. If I remeber correctly, buying a dewar was around 250$-300$.

I personally would consider doing something like this instead of buying a vial you know you are going to send back because I'm pretty sure that would be an additional 100$ restocking fee. (Not exactly sure of the charge)

Re: 7 days since shipping...

The vials will stay frozen for a long time in the dewar..just don't  open it up to check it anymore. Just let NW know and they will bill you for the extra days after you return it... I had to do that a few times.

Re: 7 days since shipping...

In case anyone is searching for this information later:

You can have a new (empty) dewar sent to you for the regular shipping fees.  The person I talked to was very nice and didn't seem too concerned with me keeping it until Monday.  I'm going to return it Monday if I don't get a positive before then.  This waiting game is killing me!

I think I'm going to look until my own dewar that I can refill next time.  This situation is making me too nervous haha.

How long have you kept them? I was thinking about keeping them until Monday at the latest.  I'm worried I might not ovulate at all this month.

I thought it was worth looking in to. I luckily havnt had any problems with tracking ever since I started using OPKs more often but im possibly starting fertility meds next cycle so Im looking into it if my cycle changes. Depending on the cost of the liquid nitrogen refill, you could potentially save a bit just by having one shipment sent out every 3mths or so.

Thanks for letting us know about NWs policy. I really hope you O soon!

Thanks!  My cycles were regular to do the day until the chemical.  I'm afraid to try and predict my next cycle since I was so off this one.  An extra dewar would be a fantastic back up plan!
