Topic: Those who have carried 2 or more times

Preferably those who used the same donor for both kids
How many tries to get preg with number 1 and then with number 2.

As most of you know we did IVF after 8 unsuccessful IUIs, medicated w/ RE.

I have 6 vials and plan to do 6 monitored cycles and call it quits (not right now, maybe in a year)
So we are trying to figure out if there is any truth to the theory that once you've been preg it is easier to get pregnant again.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

first child - age 36, 1st cycle, no meds, at home
second child - age 39, 3rd cycle (first Clomid cycle), at home

My trouble on my second attempt was undoubtedly my age and my already shifting FSH levels. Was able to correct instantly with 50mg Clomid, days 5-9.

Good luck girl!!!   smile

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

It was true for me!
Took us 9 cycles with our first. 6 tries at home (all BFN and 1 miscarriage). Moved on to IUI done by our OB and the 3rd cycle was the charm (also took Femara that cycle) and gave us our son (after one more miscarriage).
With our second son we went straight back to our OB for unmedicated IUI and got pregnant on the 2nd try resulting in our second son.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

It wasn't as easy for us with the second baby. With B it took 3 cycles, the last cycle being the first well timed IUI we tried. For the second baby it took 6 well timed IUI cycles over the course of a year.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

Do my attempts count?  If not, ignore this!

First pregnancy was a broken condom, second with same man was first time we "tried" to get pregnant.

Donor experience, first pregnancy with donor took 5 months, second was first try (same donor).

I think timing means more, but who knows!

Need to update a ticker, Silas Anthony Jordon born Oct 11, 2013.  6th baby, so much love!

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

First pregnancy
3 attempts. First attempt was horribly timed though, so I don't like to count it

Second pregnancy
2 attempts.

Same donor. Both at home insemination with no monitoring or meds.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

I got pregnant through IVF and my twins are now 7.  Since then I've done an FET (miscarriage) and 5 IUIs (plus 3 cancelled cycles - 1 for poor lining, one for cysts, and one for hyperstim).  Of the 5 actual completed IUI's I've had one chemical, and I'm 5dpo with this cycle.

Honestly?  I think it's b.s. that once you're pregnant it's easier.  I think it's timing, hormones, and luck.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

It took 6 cycles at home to get dp pregnant with our son. We had hoped that the second pregnancy would be easier, but to get her pg with our daughter took 13 cycles. We used 3 donors (including our son's) and tried home insems, then doc assisted, then home again. Our 12th attempt was a home cycle - Bfp ending in m/c. 13th cycle - at home with a new donor - got us our baby girl! Good luck smile

Did you ever have a BFP prior to the IVF?
My son was my only BFP, but a few of the IUIs were very poor sperm counts, so I honestly don't know if we "needed" IVF to get there but my insurance (at the time) covered it.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

1st born: 4 attempts, 13 vials, over 1 year.

2nd born: 1 attempt, 2 vials. Went to the RE and used Clomid and HCG trigger.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

1st baby-- three tries overall.  The first try was horrible timing with a different donor.  We got pregnant ith our donor on the second attempt

2nd baby-- used same donor and got our BFP the first try

Both were at home attempts unmedicated

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

5 cycles with #1, but did get pregnant the first try using our donor.

1st try with same donor for #2. Currently 6 wks.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

First pg with cryo donor - used 4 vials on first cycle/try - have 9y/o

2nd pg - pg first try with known donor - lost pg in second trimester sad

3rd pg - 6wks now - pg first try w known donor - anxious for this one to stick stick stick!

none of the cycles were medicated - i moved on to known donors b/c the first donor I used was no longer available

wishing you all the best

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

#1 - 4 cycles, 11 vials, 35 years old, got pregnant once I switched opks and went on clomid

#2 - tried unsuccessfully for 3 cycles (6 vials) while still nursing but cycles were still wonky and barely back (12-14 months post-partum).  Stopped trying for 6 months (22 months post-partum) then got pregnant the first try with no clomid or fertility aids of any sort.  38 years old

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

Baby 1 took 11 cycles. I switched donors 2-3 times and on my first try with my son's donor I got pregnant with one vial. I'm currently pregnant with baby two using the same donor and it took first time with only one vial.

Re: Those who have carried 2 or more times

It's hard to compare because the first was ICI at home-- took 12 vials over 5 months.
The second was IUI at a fertility clinic and took 1 vial and 1 try.
Same donor for each.
