Topic: bursting with pride!

Those of you who have already made it past 4 1/2 will truly understand what I mean when I say we had some real rough patches this summer!  The good news is 4 and 3/4 is looking pretty good right now!

We went to a restaurant dinner for a friend's birthday. There were several families I didn't know and there were 2 children a little bit younger than Kate. Towards the end of the meal the other children started to literally run laps around the table. Before I knew what was happening Kate got called into this game of tag. I was in the middle of preparing the cake to bring to the table so I never said anything and she stopped on her own very quickly. Then they got really out of control (no one else seemed to notice which always blows my mind).  While these kids ran around and whined for the cake I was cutting (which I said they couldn't have until they sat down) Kate served the cake to 15 adults. I was so proud but the best part was how proud of herself she was. I just love these moments and with the summer we had it was a welcome one indeed!

Re: bursting with pride!

I have to agree that 4 3/4 was FABULOUS! Oh it was the best summer ever. Way to go, Kate!

(I also will not put up with the extremely rude chaos of wandering and especially circling the table in restaurants. We would leave immediately and my kids know it.)

Re: bursting with pride!

Good to hear.  My almost 4.5yr old just dumped glass after glass of water on the bed for fun.  Thankfully we have waterproof mattress pads but geez, not what I needed at 2am.  So 4.75 will be just in time to impress Santa... can't wait!!

Re: bursting with pride!

Mel - exactly!  Now that our kids are older you can really see who started the discipline and drawing the lines on appropriate behavior early on all along and who thought stuff was "cute" when they were younger is now regretting it!

Smarty - what????  Hope you got some sleep!

That's awesome! You are doing a great job raising her. I feel many of us on this NW site are great moms and we really try to raise our children to be respectful, and they are just wonderful kids!  smile  smile

Njmomma - that's why I felt I could post it here where I really do think most people have a similar mindset. I didn't want to post to fb where people who were actually there would see it!  It was an all around good weekend....4 1/2 be gone!!!!

Re: bursting with pride!

Oh and when I casually brought up the running in a restaurant she told me she was skipping because she knows she's not allowed to run with flip flops on but then stopped because she knew she'd get in trouble. As long as we've got that straight smile.....

Re: bursting with pride!

Awesome!   Some of my proudest moments are when we get conpliments on our kids' behavior in restaurants.   Especially when they see 4 little ones walk in and sit near them and they admit to us when they leave that at first they were like oh crap and then ended up being very pleasantly surprised :-)
