Topic: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

So I am 17 weeks and I still have not felt any movement.  Not a flutter, not a bubble, nada.  The only thing I've felt going on in there is some sharp fleeting pains, which I think is round ligament pain from the stretching of the uterus.

My mother is driving me nuts (she does anyway, but especially now) texting me twice a day asking if I've felt the baby move yet.

When did you sayrt feeling movement?  Should I be concerned?  I am having such an easy pregnancy so far (no ms, no back pain, nothing) I almost wish I felt worse so I at least knew she was okay!  Also, I am taller and my belly hasn't really "popped" yet, it can still just pass for a beer gut and it's jiggly, not hard.  I fell like I am never going to feel pregnant!

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

First baby I was not feeling till close to 20 weeks.

Second was more like 15 weeks

Third I swear I could feel her moving at 14 weeks.

Fourth I did not feel till 18 weeks, and not consistently till 24 weeks, due to an anterior placenta.  It'll happen, try not to stress!  (and tell you mom to fly a kite, her getting you worried is no good for anyone)

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

With first it was 21 weeks with second baby it was 16 weeks & 5 days. With my first though my placenta was  anterior and holy smokes does that make a difference! Riley was often strong, kept me up at night & many later days you could see my whole stomach moving but even at 31 weeks with baby two she can throw some strong punches & kicks that hurt! I don't remember Riley actually causing pain. Sucked not feeling him until later but man the safety cushion was sure nice.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

I didn't feel the bubbly feeling with my first or anything else until around 20 weeks.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

I felt J move for the First time at 16 weeks 3 days.  I was at the midnight premier of Oz the great and Powerful - which was loud and had scary signs and I felt him moving the entire movie, it was insane! I just knew he was afraid and felt like a terrible mom! Now that he is out and I know his personality I am sure I was right.  He is a very timid little guy.  But that us crazy early to feel a first baby. With my second sister, my moms third baby, she hardly felt her at all right up until the end, because the placenta was in te very front so it absorbed most movements.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

right at 20 weeks

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

With the twins it was around 22 weeks. With M it was around 12 weeks.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

Since your taller that is probably why....do you ever have lower back aches? Baby might just be sitting in your back instead of your belly. That is what happened with my son, hang in there once it starts baby may start kicking you all the time!

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

I have had no back pain.  The only thing I've noticed is that my feet have started to hurt at the end of the day; I've never had my feet hurt before.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

#1 was 14 3/7 weeks and #2 was exactly 12 weeks. It felt like butterflies fluttering right above my pubic bone. I was really tiny when I got pregnant with both and I read that that's probably why I felt ten move that early. With both babies I was laying down flat at around 9 or 10 pm after I'd eaten, and was so relaxed with absolutely no distraction or sound. I don't think I would have noticed it otherwise.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

Not until at least 20 or 22 weeks.  Nothing before that.  Even later on, around 28 weeks, I'd say to the doctor during an ultrasound - "I don't feel baby B moving" and he would show me baby B tumbling away.

I did have two anterior placentas . . . but still.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

Not until A little after 20 weeks, this is my first baby and I didn't have any MS or backpain or any of the regular  pregnancy stuff either, I told my roommate that the only time I knew for sure I was pregnant was when I had a Doctors appointment and could hear the babys heartbeat! lol But at the 20 week mark that all changed, and now he bumps, rolls, stretches, and flips off and on all day, its amazing. As for your mom she might just be really excited, but I would still let her know that all the phone calls were stressing you out, and you will let her know when it happens. My bio mom is asking me stuff like if something happens to me who gets the baby?! She hasn't been active in my life since I was an infant, but she was still ticked off when I told her it wouldn't be her. lol Moms just have a knack for pushing our buttons. Just stay as calm as possible, trust that your Doctor is keeping an eye on everything, and try to enjoy your long awaited pregnancy, I started keeping a journal about Dr Appointments and little things that happened but after I felt him the first time now its more like I'm writing to him, cause this took so long, and I love him so much already I didn't want to forget anything.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

1st baby was about 18 weeks, each one after was 14-16 weeks.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

I was just about 15 week when I first felt baby move-only while laying down. I think I felt her early because I'm veeery short waisted. It felt like itty bitty thumps. A few weeks later I could also feel a swishing feeling, like a goldfish was swimming around in there. Haha.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

From 12 weeks on for me but I have a bicornuated uterus so I was fortunate to feel him very early. Now that I am  almost 30 weeks it feels like my baby is really cramped in there.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

14 weeks for me.  But nothing really substantial until 18 weeks. It will happen soon for you and before you know it you'll be communicating through your belly with your little one!

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

1st- Don't think until 20-22 weels
2nd with anterior placenta- started feeling flutters at 16 weeks, definite movement at 18, and full on outer belly kicks at 22
3rd (this one)- I started feeling flutters that I passed as gas in the late 14,early 15 weeks and started feeling definite movement/kicks in my 16th week. Now at 18+1 today and he is super active at night but not much during the day unless im leaning over the computer or leaning down cleaning something up and squishing my belly.

It could be that your a 1st time mom and your taller and have more abdomen for him to move around in.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

Thanks, everyone, for the input.

I think I felt her today!  I was sitting at my table looking through the mail, and I had what felt like a muscle spasm in my lower abdomen....like if you work out your legs then finally sit down, how your muscles twitch?  That's what it felt like.  Lasted probably 10 seconds.  I now it could be gas but gas feelings usually only last a second.  It was more on my left side, and when I lie down and palpate my abdomen, I can usually feel a lump on the left side which I've assumed was the baby.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

yep that sounds like it to me, congrats! It only gets better from here, before you know it you'll be lounging back on the couch watching your belly roll from side to side.  smile

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

Yay! That's the best feeling.  I miss watching him move my belly.  Luckily I got it on video a couple times.  So when the time comes, and you catch her making your tummy bounce up and down, be sure to video it...you'll be so glad to have it!

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

Sounds like baby.. IT starts like that and will get more and more noticeable. Last night DH felt him kicking away for the first time which seemed pretty early but may have something to do with him already being a big boy and measuring so far ahead smile  Coolest feeling ever and hope your DP gets to experience it soon.

Have you thought of getting a dopplar? I got one for $50 that works great for whenever I needed those little reassurances he was in there.

Re: When Did You Feel Your Baby Move?

I was thinking about getting a home Doppler, though the ones I've found are kind of pricey.  I was thinking about looking on craigslist or at Once Upon a Child.

I did get out my stethoscope, though, to see if I could hear baby moving around or anything, but didn't have much luck.
