Topic: Mood swings, and irritability, and tearfulness, oh my!

Please give me tips on how to make this better! I'm a raging horror one minute and crying my eyes out the next. H and I have had several huge fights in the last 24hrs, over stupid things like doing the dishes and E's socks... I started crying this morning listening to NPR's recap of the sox winning the World Series last night... E and I have even had big fights over her napping (stalling, etc)...
I can't control my emotions at all!! Is this really going to last for a while, and what can I do to make it better?? It's unbelievably horrible. I just want to be happy and blissful and enjoy this moment, but instead Im a hot mess.
Help!!

Mine still comes and goes but was the worst in the first trimester.

Re: Mood swings, and irritability, and tearfulness, oh my!

In my first trimester, I cried for NO REASON AT ALL several times.  Sometimes I cried because I was driving and the sing inthe radio was so good.  Sometimes I cried because I read a Facebook post about someone losing their dog.  Sometimes I cried because we were out of milk.

I also yelled at my neighbor for taking my parking spot (we park street side; I live in a duplex) and I am not at all a person to confront someone or say anything to anyone even if my feelings are hurt.  I yelled at the receptionist at work for overbooking me (and almost walked out and quit), and--this one is the worst--I accused (and really had myself believing) DP of doing coke with an old coworker of hers while we were at an outdoor concert.  For the record, I have never known her to do drugs, she barely drinks!  But I thought this guy looked shady, she went to the beer tent with him and spent what I thought was too long coming back, so of course she went to his car with him to do coke!  Makes sense, right?

My point is that when you are newly pregnant I think your brain interprets everything as a big deal, and your estrogen is high and it's impossible to control your emotions.  The good news is that by 10-11 weeks I evened out and felt much more like myself (though I do still get pissed about the parking spot).

My mood swings seem to intensify when I'm stressed.  Taking time out for myself just to be still has been really helpful.

Re: Mood swings, and irritability, and tearfulness, oh my!

With Riley I felt like I had a good handle on my emotions minus the first two weeks after he was born. With this baby though I felt a lot more rage the first trimester. I think here or there I have bad days now that I do think is pregnancy related but the first trimester was the worse. I could just tell I was easily annoyed with things a tad more then usual and my patience was a lot less. I talked to the dr and she suggested more vitamin D. I'm on that now & am doing a lot better.

Re: Mood swings, and irritability, and tearfulness, oh my!

That was my first symptom!! I felt like I had PMS on steroids, and since I was atarting to think I would never get pregnant I thought I was just losing my damn mind, lol.  For me that extreme part of it like you are describing was over very quickly - probably about a week after my BFP. I think the shock of hormones in those first weeks causes it.  Of course your hormones are raging all throughout pregnancy but for me at least it got to where it was more random weepiness that I could laugh at...not that horrible crazy feeling moodiness it was at first.  Just try to focus on your sweet baby all neslted in there.  :-)

I had that too... erm... at least, it's starting to go away now that the wee man is 3 weeks old....
