Topic: Just for fun: Spontaneous labor (Edited w/additional question)

I'm sure this has been asked before but I don't recall seeing a post about it too recently.   hmm

As you can see by my ticker, we are getting quite close to delivering our little man. smile It's actually quite exciting since this is so different from when we had our daughter. DP's health is much better and the entire pregnancy has been much more smooth. We were induced with our daughter due to hypertension and the effect it was having on DP's heart. We are hoping to go spontaneously with our son, so long as the hypertension does not return in full force.

So, just for fun, for those of you who went into labor on your own (no medical induction and no stripping of membranes): how far along were you? If you had more than one pregnancy where you were able to go into labor naturally, give me gestational stages on all of them.

Curious. smile

Edited to Add: if your water broke before ctx started, as some of you had happen, were you dilated at all at your last appt?

Re: Just for fun: Spontaneous labor (Edited w/additional question)

I was 41 weeks and 3 or 4 days. I was scheduled to finally just be induced but they were too busy. I went into labor on my own a few hours after what would have been check in time. Amazing and easy labor and birth so I'm VERY glad it worked out that way.

I'm 36 weeks tomorrow with this baby. Dr's said since I was late with first that my chances of going early are slim :-( I don't want her too be too early but REALLY don't want a Christmas baby so hoping a day or two early would be nice.

Re: Just for fun: Spontaneous labor (Edited w/additional question)

My first was born at 38 weeks, 1 day. My water broke at home, right at midnight, just as I was dozing off. After 4 hours of nothing happening, pitocin was started. He arrived at 12:02pm (almost exactly 12 hours after my water broke).

My second was an emergency c-section because his cord prolapsed when my water was broken artificially. That was at 38 weeks exactly, BUT I did not go into labor on my own.

My third was born at 38 weeks, 6 days. My water broke right at midnight again.  After 12 hours of once again, nothing happening, I was given pitocin. He arrived at 4:49pm (almost 17 hours after my water broke).

Wow ... quite the stories. With #1 and #3, were you dilated at all?

H was 38w5d when her water broke. Contractions started instantly, were five minutes apart for 32hrs and she had a c-section.

I was 38 weeks and went into labor on my own.  I had early labor for 24hours then went into active labor and my water broke sometime during active labor on its own.

Re: Just for fun: Spontaneous labor (Edited w/additional question)

#1, 42 weeks 4 days, 4 hour labour
#2, 40 weeks, 47 minute labour
#3. 38 weeks 4 days, 1 hour labour
#4, 40 weeks 3 days, 45 minute labour

All my babies were spontaneous labours, only with #1 did my water break before contractions.  With #3 and #4 I did have cervical checks with a "stretch" the day I went into labour.

Re: Just for fun: Spontaneous labor (Edited w/additional question)

I think I was close to 3 cm, at least over 2 cm, my last appointment when I went into labor. For a few nights in a row I was having consistent contractions that stopped after a while. On 39w4days, contractions started like period pain pretty regularly and it seemed I was leaking some fluid. Contractions continued every 3-5 minutes and I was racing around the house cleaning up while trying to use this app on my phone to keep track of contractions, lol. After a few hours of this, I called the Dr on-call and was told to go to the hospital to get the fluid checked. He said I would be admitted  and definitely in labor if there was amniotic fluid present.

I was very happy I got to drive myself to the hospital, plan B was to call a cab. I was admitted immediately and my helper met me there on his bike. I had the baby at almost noon the next day at 39w5days!

Re: Just for fun: Spontaneous labor (Edited w/additional question)

My last OB appt I was exactly 40 weeks.  I was about 3 cm dilated and 90% effaced.  The next day I felt terrible...:fluey and just off.  I also lost my mucus plug and was having diarrhea. Even though I was not having contractions I just knew it was the beginning of labor.  Being single, I stayed at my moms last night.  At 4 am the next morning I was woken up with strong contractions. They started 10 mins apart and within an hour they were 5 mins.  I woke mom up at that point and we got ready to go to the hospital / then they just stopped. Ugh!  I walked her hilly neighborhood (a miserable feat at 9 months pregnant!) and that didn't help.  So I went back to bed - and was woken up shortly after by more contractions.  Went into the hospital at 10 am to get checked out.  I was 10.5 cm.  doc told me if I walked around for two hours and progressed to 4 he would admit me - I did! Once I was admitted, things steadily started happening but my water never broke.  They broke it around 10 pm and he was born at 3 am the following day.

39 weeks 4 days.  Labor started and water broke on it's own about 5 hours later.  21-22 hour labor.
39 weeks 1 day.  Water broke first and contractions started about 2 hours later. 11-12 hour labor.
I never dilated at all before labor so I never was able to have membranes stripped.

Re: Just for fun: Spontaneous labor (Edited w/additional question)

Hiya!

I was 40 weeks and 3 days. Our little one was a birth center birth with a midwife, and they don't check you at all unless you specifically ask (good god, why would I volunteer?), so I can't say if I was dilated before my water broke. But it started leaking around midnight, then around 7am we went to the birth center, and our Little Lady was born about two hours later in a very peaceful, intervention free and pain free labor. smile (the entire gentle birth story is here on the forums from around December 2011).

I encourage you to read the Birth Without Fear blog for inspiring birth stories (on mobile or I would post a direct link). You are going to have an awesome easy labor, and I'm so excited for you!
